All of us know that our National animal is Tiger, but many of
us didn't know the things which are described here. This article is all about
some facts related to "ROYAL BENGAL TIGER"-The National Animal of India.
It is believed that the Bengal Tiger has been chosen as the National animal due
to its grace, strength, agility and enormous power. It is found throughout the
country except in the north-western region. The tiger was adopted as the
National Animal by the Indian Board for Wildlife in 1972 in place of the lion.
It was selected as a national animal because of its presence in larger parts of
the country. It is found in 16 states while the lion is found only in one
state.

Tiger is also called the lord of Jungles. The rigid
adjustable nature of tiger can be well defined by its nature of occupying a
variety of habitats from dry open jungles, humid ever-green forests to mangrove
swamps. Tigers have muscular bodies with powerful forelimbs, large heads and
long tails. The national animal of India, is a rich-colored well-striped animal
with a short coat. Tigers are strong swimmers and often deliberately bathe in
ponds, lakes and rivers as a means of keeping cool in the heat. They are
considered as strongest among all members of Cat family.

As the national animal of India, tiger symbolizes India's
wildlife wealth. The combination of grace, strength, agility and enormous power
has earned the tiger great respect and high esteem. But this is very unfortunate
that our national animal comes under the category of Endangered Species. India
is home to the world's largest population of wild tigers but only 11% of the
original Indian tiger habitat remains. Extinction of Tigers will somehow leads
to our wildlife into danger. Tiger has
also been long part of Indian mythology and folklore. Somewhere it symbolizes
the power, strength, elegance, alertness, intelligence and endurance of the
nation.

We can also compare this thing with present condition of the nation's
youth which is drowning into various things like internet, drugs, alcohol and
the trend of following others and simply making money. There are good examples
like Saina Nehwal, Bhushan Kumar, Abha Dawesar, Geeta Phogat, Varun Bahl and
Bhawna Gawali. They have showed that ‘WE’ can still roar like Tiger and show
the world our power. But still in such a huge population there are very few examples
like these. The Elegance and Strength (youth) is in danger, so are the tigers.

About the youth we will discuss later but the tiger we need
to know few things as this article is concerned with them. The Government of
India, under its "Project Tiger" program, started a massive effort to
preserve the tiger population in 1973. Today, the tiger advances as a symbol of
India's conservation of itself and its wildlife heritage. Since the launch of
"Project Tiger", the tiger population has shown a gradual increase.
So far, 23 tiger reserves have been established in the country under this
project. Also, because of the worldwide
importance of the animal, and the need to protect it. If you are a kind of
person who love to explore and adventure then there are few places in our
country where you can visit and know more about this amazing creature like Jim
Corbett National Park (Uttrakhand) and Megamalai Wildlife Sanctuary (Tamil
Nadu). But remember follow the complete guidance and instructions of the concern
department and authorities to maintain the decorum. It’s their home and
remember no matters how amazing creature tigers are.... but they are wild, so
follow the rules of the place to secure yourself.

I am sure you will get inspired by this and now you know
why tiger is our National Animal.
